Pedacito de la Tierra
Everyone needs safe space – to nourish, to rest, to dream, to be - everyone deserves un Pedacito de la Tierra
The official February, 2021 launch of Pedacito de la Tierra (A Little Piece of Home) hosted by Burners Without Borders and Alight, kicked-off a global movement to create sustainable spaces of hope and refuge for people on a journey of migration, beginning at the U.S./Mexico border. Our friends from Casa de la Misericordia in Nogales, Mexico warmly welcomed hundreds of community members around the world to join their virtual table for a decentralized meal and conversation about shelter and the practice of what it ought to look like. The gathering convened design, musical and culinary creatives - unbound by borders - to guide a meaningful conversation about belonging and the importance of cultivating “pedacitos de la tierra” wherever we may be.

Co-creating Community.
We have teamed up with community members on a journey of migration, Catholic Sisters and co-creative international partners to amplify the unity, resilience, and hope of shelters along the U.S./Mexico border through the initiative, Pedacito de la Tierra. We want to infuse sentiments and securities of home by transforming these shelters and developing tools that support residents to gather in welcoming spaces with access to human-worthy services.
